Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Senior
Principal Mechanical Engineer specifically supporting structural
analysis within the Mechanical Ground Systems Engineering team.
This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA at Space
Park.The Mechanical Ground Systems Engineering team supports the
design, fabrication, and use of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment
(MGSE). MGSE is non-flight hardware used to support the
integration, test, and launch of spacecraft and its various stages
of assembly. This includes, but is not limited to, lift slings,
transportation systems, robotics, zero-g deployment fixtures,
pneumatics, propellant loading systems, etc. In this position, the
candidate will be responsible for structural analysis of MGSE and
have experience in some of the following areas:
- Design and Modeling in 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
software
- Fundamental structural analysis techniques
- Drafting using CAD software
- Fabrication support at vendors including acceptance testing and
inspection
- End-user support during integration operations
- Conceptual design
- Requirements definition
- Integration & Test process flow developmentAs a Senior
Principal Mechanical Engineer , a qualified candidate is expected
to be proficient in a majority of design and analysis principles,
processes, and tools. The candidate is expected to mentor and coach
less experienced project personnel in MGSE design, structural
analysis, and other technical concepts. This senior level position
requires acting independently to uncover and resolve issues
associated with the overall strength of the MGSE designs to ensure

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule
allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday
to take every other Friday off. *Applicants must have extensive
structural analysis experience. **On-site support is expected for
the following position. Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution plus 9
years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science degree in a
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an
accredited institution plus 7 years of engineering experience.
- Experience in structural analysis using hand-calculations or
Finite Element Methods
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain, at least ONE of
the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background
investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope
Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR
Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background
Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years. Preferred
Qualifications:
- Masters' Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with design modeling and/or drawing efforts using
3-D CAD modeling tools such as CATIA
- Previous experience in MGSE design, fabrication, and proof load
testing
- Active DoD Top Secret or SCI Access with a Single Scope
background. Salary Range: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD Employees may
be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as
