This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.The Material Process Engineer will be part of the Composite and Non-Metallic Materials Engineering Team and is responsible for providing Materials and Processes support to aerospace hardware production, developing materials, processes, engineering specifications, and performing material evaluations and failure analyses. The successful candidate will collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, QA, and customers to help deliver high quality, precision aerospace products. Our Materials Engineer will also investigate opportunities for improving existing materials, processes, equipment, adherence to specifications, and technology for attaining cost reduction and continuous improvement goals.The candidate shall also analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications and fabrication and assembly processes. Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, engineering processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analysis and failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition of requirements and specifications. Investigate opportunities for improving existing materials, processes, equipment, and technology. Provide hands-on support to production operations to implement cost reduction and productivity improvement projects.
