Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Vehicle & Software Engineering Department. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The Structural Engineer will perform analysis on precision moving electro-mechanical products. You will be a structural engineering specialist within the Mechanisms and Deployable Products Department. You will analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic, or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of space sector products. You will analyze stiffness/strength, durability, design allowables, and perform structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include stress, dynamics, and loads development (quasi-static, sine, random vibration, acoustic, and shock). You will use classic hand analysis methods as well as finite element analysis techniques for analyzing metallic and composite structures, bonded joint analyses, stability checks, static stress, and occasional fatigue. Tools utilized may include: Femap, NX NASTRAN, Mathcad, Matlab, CATIA, and a variety of other software applications.

The responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Predominately metallic and the occasional composite structural analyses including detailed analysis procedures, analysis of fittings/fasteners/joints/splices, acoustics/vibration familiarity, structural integrity planning, design criteria development, stability, crippling, durability analysis, and finite element modeling.
  • Layout sizing, and structural integrity evaluations.
  • Review of requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
  • Create FEA models and perform systems and sub-systems structural analysis.
  • Participate and present in internal and external (customer) design reviews.
  • Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining focus on common project goals.Basic Qualifications - Structural Engineer:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 1 year of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM with 0 years of engineering experience.
    • Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experience with Finite Element Analyses Tools
      • Experience with metallic and composite structures sizing.
      • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI.
      • Clearance investigation within the last 5 years.
      • Prior Space Products experience. Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
