Join the Space revolution and make the impossible, possible. SSSD has an opening for a Radiation Effects Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA. The Radiation Effects Engineer will perform radiation effects analysis, shielding analysis, survivability analysis, radiation analysis reporting, and simulation of electronic components relative to space radiation effects. Role and Responsibilities: - Prepare radiation analysis for satellite payload systems - Prepare test plans, procedures and reports for radiation testing of electronics at component and box levels (e.g. total dose, prompt dose and single event upset/transient) - Perform Single Event Effects test preparation & analysis - Use codes for environment & rate calculations, natural & man-made radiation transport, as well as nuclear EMP and mechanical response - Circuit design/simulation, SPICE analyses, electronic component characterization & parameters. - Prepare survivability analysis for space environments such as Micrometeoroid Analysis, Orbital Debris, Atomic Oxygen, and UV degradation - Prepare Statement of Works for radiation test labs defining requirements for radiation testing of electronic components - Perform radiation predictions using NOVICE, Testable Hardware Tool Kit (THTK), SPENVIS, CR--ME96, MCNP and other radiation analysis tools - Assess radiation effects on material degradation - Interface with multiple disciplines such as program management, electrical, mechanical, system engineering, procurement, subcontractors, manufacturing and test. - Present radiation requirements and compliance at PDRs, CDRs and other program reviews as required. - Perform ground shock modeling, system generated electromagnetic pulse modeling, debris impact, radiation transport, shielding and shadowing analysis, simulation of electronic components relative to radiation effects, parameter degradation, performing part evaluations, and single event effects. Available positions require that the candidate have a strong understanding of one or more of the skills described. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 2+ years of experience in Engineering OR - Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline - Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics. - Experience performing radiation effects analysis, and testing, shielding analysis, and survivability analysis - Experience with the following radiation tool: DEEP, NOVICE, AE9AP9, CremeMC, Testable Hardware Toolkit, etc. - Experience with other space environment prediction tools for micrometeoroids, orbital debris, and atomic oxygen - Knowledge of the physics associated with radiation effects in semiconductor devices - Strong written and verbal communication skills of the English language
