Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an
opening for a Senior Principal Facilities Rep - Building
Inspections and Code Compliance to join our team of qualified,
diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo
Beach, CA and serve multiple buildings and locations consisting of
5M+ occupied square feet (unclassified and classified) covering 130
acres, 48 buildings, and serving 10,000+ employees in three cities
(Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Carson). Under general
supervision, the Facilities Rep Building Inspector will perform
inspections of routine and complex structures and building systems
at various stages of construction, alteration and repair; and
support the planning for, investigation and interpretation of code
compliance, plan reviews and permit processing.
In this role you will:
Report to the Manager of Facilities Design Engineering, Energy
Management and Sustainability
Ensure building progress conforms to California Building Code,
Plumbing and Electrical Codes, City codes and ordinances and
pertinent provisions of Federal, State and County health and
environmental ordinances.
Partner with the Planning, Engineering, Facilities Services,
Projects, and Maintenance teams to perform building inspections,
project design reviews, and construction site inspections.
Serve as a liaison within the Facilities organization to research
local building code requirements
Assist with projects requiring plan reviews and permits
Partner with Environmental, Safety, Health and Medical (ESHM) team
to support Fire Department and County Health Department inspections
as required in one or more inspection disciplines such as
electrical, plumbing, or mechanical
Help ensure project compliance with conditions attached to projects
by the Development Review Board, the Planning Commission or the
City Council
Inspect buildings, structures, and installations in various stages
of construction, remodeling, or repair
Examine workmanship and materials for conformance with approved
plans, regulations, and standard construction practices
Help ensure proper and safe installations of routine and complex
building systems
Advise on standard construction methods and requirements
Assist in performing internal reviews of plans and
specifications
Read, research, interpret and provide guidance on building,
plumbing, electrical, and zoning ordinances and codes
Perform complex inspections of commercial and industrial buildings
within one particular inspection discipline such as building,
electrical, plumbing and mechanical.
Responds to emergencies when called upon by supervisor, or
emergency dispatchers, to assist as technical expert in evaluation
of safety.
Serve as a liaison with local municipalities to track plan reviews
and processing or permits
Assist in the checking of building plans
Support in-house project inspection activities
Make field review of plans and specifications
Support incident response investigations and site audits
Conduct follow-up inspections to check and verify that conditions
are completed
Conduct inspections, prepare reports and serve as needed to assist
in site investigations and audits
Confer with Facilities Integration Leads, Facilities project
engineers, architects, and contractors
Maintain detailed records and prepare reports.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures and make
recommendations on programs and projects.
Keep informed of industry trends and developments.
Prepare routine documents, such as Maximo work orders,
correspondence, memos, and emails
Utilize computers and specialized equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Training and Experience: Seven years of full-time paid experience
responsible for performing duties as a building inspector and/or
construction superintendent in building trades or any combination
of seven years of experience enforcing building codes and/or
experience with the public interpreting building codes.
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Knowledge of methods of building construction, accepted safety
standards.
Knowledge of research methods and sources of information related to
building code enforcement, including the California Building Codes,
zoning ordinances, and other environmental codes and energy
regulations.
Ability to perform journey-level inspections in a variety of
specialty trade areas and to perform competent and efficient
work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations
with those contacted in the course of work.
License or Certificate Possession of an appropriate, valid
California driver's license.
License or Certificate Possession of certification as a Building
Inspector issued by the ICC (International Code Council) or other
equivalent state, national, or international association.
Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of building inspection
work.
Ability to: Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection
techniques to examine workmanship and materials, and detect
deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction
practices.
Apply City Codes and policies regarding zoning, environmental
matters and other regulations to field situations.
Work independently without supervision.
Possession of an appropriate, valid California drivers'
license.
ADA Special Requirement: Essential duties require the following
physical abilities and work environment: Ability to sit, stand,
walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and
lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 75 pounds rarely;
exposure to extreme noise, outdoors, confining workspace,
electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste,
mechanical hazards, and explosive materials.
Knowledge of: The Uniform Building Code enforceable by local
municipalities
Familiarity with model Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, zoning
ordinances, and State of California and Los Angeles County health
codes as related to construction
Ability to:
Perform building inspections with speed and accuracy
Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and building
codes
Verify compliance with applicable regulations
Work safely
Prepare reports and maintain records
Meet prescribed physical/medical standards
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with
others
Legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California
Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio)
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Department of
Defense Top Secret and SCI Clearances
Preferred Qualifications:
Associated 2-Year Junior College degree or 4-year college
degree
Project management and/or construction experience in the Aerospace
Industry at a large site with multiple buildings with multiple
projects in process simultaneously
Experience in "Classified" building facilities infrastructure
Experience in Aerospace Industry classified construction
activities
Experience with building management systems, specifically Tridium
Niagara
Experience with building maintenance management systems,
specifically Maximo
Experience with business management systems, such as Tableau, SAP,
Concur
Experience in developing and presenting executive level
briefings
Experience leading construction projects
Possesses active U.S. Government Department of Defense Top Secret
and SCI Clearances
