SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Dean/Program Director, Occupational Therapy, the Assistant Professor OT/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) supports the University in fulfillment of its mission, purpose and goals. - This role provides program-specific expertise and is actively engaged in relevant department initiatives in support of University, Campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet student learning, workplace and placement expectations. - The AFWC provides professional leadership and support, and serves as an educator, role model, mentor and facilitator and facilitates the academic and fieldwork faculty to:

  • Develop, monitor, and refine the fieldwork education component as part of the curriculum
  • Ensure quality learning experiences for students during fieldwork education;
  • Evaluate students' performance and their ability to integrate didactic and fieldwork learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum;
  • Educate students, fieldwork and academic faculty about fieldwork education;
  • Ensure that the fieldwork learning environment demonstrates characteristics of sound patient management, professional behavior , and is current with occupational therapy practice;
  • Ensure that the fieldwork education program maximizes available resources. - The AFWC serves as a liaison between the Occupational Therapy program and the fieldwork education sites and is responsible for the establishment of fieldwork site and fieldwork faculty standards, implementation, selection, orientation, and evaluation of fieldwork sites, and fosters the ongoing development of fieldwork education programs and their faculty. - EDUCATION: Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university required. Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university preferred. Should provide a documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments including but not limited to education theory and practice, or current concepts relative to specific subjects he or she will be teaching, or current clinical practice experience, or distance education techniques and delivery. - LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Certified by NBCOT (The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy) as an OTR (Registered Occupational Therapist) required. Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California required. Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that West Coast University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty member as set forth in regulatory documents and any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 3-5 Years relevant experience and/or 1-4 years of full time documented (a minimum of 60 units; e.g. 20 3-unit course or their equivalent) teaching experience in an ACOTE accrediting agency (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education) Occupational Therapy program. - Instructional experience must be at institutions which are Title IV funding eligible. Working with online learning management systems to further engage the student learning process desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and other MS office products as needed. Program specific: Minimum of two years of experience in clinical practice and experience in supervising internship students. Knowledge of medical community and established relationships with professional memberships. Knowledge of education standards such as WASC, ACOTE and other accreditation standards preferred.
